Been really busy all day today doing some research.
While my parents were here over the weekend, we got to talking about some different ideas I've had about what I might consider doing outside the norm.
Truth be told, I'm tired of the corporate life. My time is not my own. It's a constant struggle to keep a balance between work and home life. A losing battle pretty much.
So I told my parents I didn't care about making the big paycheck anymore. All I want to be able to do is once again enjoy my life and just be able to pay the bills with a little to continue putting away in savings for retirement and emergencies.
No more corporate life for me.
Ideas floated around. We got to talking about what I might be able to do and how I might be able to go about doing it.
Don't mean to sound cocky when I say this, but I have no doubt that I'll be able to accomplish whatever I set out to do.
My dad believes that about me too. We're considering the oddest of possibilities - a partnership, as you will.
I live in one of the fastest growing and most sought after communities in the entire state. Housing is at a premium out here. Rentals are an enormous rarity. My dad once owned and rented some properties, but they weren't in highly sought after neighborhoods or towns. He had a difficult time dealing with it as a business, God love him.
He's got such a tender heart sometimes that it doesn't bode well in such an industry. But he's always wanted to be successful at property ownership.
So we're thinking - JUST THINKING - at the moment that if he can pick up some REO properties on the market here for a song that I will manage the business side and he can enjoy the profits to add to his retirement.
See, I've got the business mind and he's got the money right now. I don't have the corporate job weighing on me at the moment, but I love being around other people.
Strange as it may sound, this just might actually have the potential to work to both of our benefits. Not alot of money in it for me until we get into several good properties, but the potential is there. Plus there's also the potential to help my mom and dad enjoy an even cushier retirement.
If you've got the money, now's the time to be investing it in real estate. Property values will always come back.
Who knows about my 401k!

Final Day Approaches
Tomorrow is it.
Yep, my last day. There was an impromtu cry-fest this morning between myself and one of my dear co-workers. She and I have shared many stories, counseled and comforted one another over the last ten years. She's seen my son grow up from a little six-year-old child to a wonderful and handsome young man.
It's sure hard to believe sometimes that it's been that long!
Not sure yet how to feel about all this. I've accepted it. I'm ready to move on in many ways, to take a chance while I have it. But I will also desperately miss the working relationships we've built over the years.
We're more than co-workers. We're like family.
And like family we'll go our separate ways, but know we'll see each other every once in awhile. I'm already planning a get-together over here at my home for some homemade lasagna (lots of cheese!). Perhaps next month.
There's a list already begun to ensure we all have current and updated email, home and cell numbers. A couple of us have moved this past year, so we need to make sure our addresses are current with each other too.
I'm comforted to know that this isn't forever. We'll see each other again real soon.
Maybe I'll invite them over to see the movie at the end of the month. :-)

Life Being Lived
Gotta admit - I'm not sure what I'm writing about tonight.
We've had a busy week, but a good one. That's the best of both worlds (wait a minute - I think I've had too much Disney exposure over the years).
My cats have noticed my absence around the house a little bit lately. Every time I walk around the house my feet are tangled with the rascally things. The moment I take time to just sit down, my lap is filled with fluff.
It's kinda nice to be missed.
They've still got my son around the house, but I'm the one that spoils them rotten. Matter of fact, we just finished our movie night and almost the entire time my lap had Paws filling it. Now that I've sat here at the computer, he's sitting in the office window intermittently looking out the window then staring at me.
Aw - he just meowed all cute-like.
My son's been enjoying some additional time to himself, but I think he's glad to have me home a bit more this week. He's enjoying some last free evenings until he gets a job. I think he'll be making a few follow-up calls tomorrow at some of the places he's applied.
Gotta admit, I'm enjoying doing the play more than I realized I would. Just feels good being back on the stage again. Now if only I can get my voice to cooperate, this will be a great performance to be a part of.
Okay - I didn't know what to write about when I sat down so I just spilled out a little bit of everything at the moment.
Gee, I need to call my friends and play a little catch-up this weekend too.
Life - it never ends. And that's a good thing.

At A Crossroads
I feel at a bit of a crossroads.
My outside job is very demanding right now. We're trying to bring on something totally new to a company that is more like a lumbering bear, pretty set in it's ways. Expectations are high and support is low. They don't understand our bird and we're trying to operate within a tightly confined box. Neither one of us understand the other.
It isn't working for me.
The people I work directly with are great. We're like a little family and have stayed together for almost ten years. We have our highs and our lows, our frustrations and joys, but we all stick together and make things happen because we generally recognize the strengths that each of us bring to the table. That's what has kept me with them for so long.
For the past couple of weeks I've come home drained. Not in a good way. I love being innovative, throwing out ideas, and finding the nuggets of gold. I'm usually a very optimistic person and can work with most anything I'm given. At least as long as I'm given something to hold onto. At least as long as I'm given the tools I need to succeed. At least as long as I have the training I need and the communication to get things done.
This drained feeling has left me so empty. I cannot seem to find the time to get much real writing done. Heck, I went an entire four days without blogging a couple of weeks ago. THAT, my friends, is bad! Writing usually inspires me. I can stay up late writing and even though I feel tired the next day, I can't wait to get back at it again that evening.
When writing becomes a chore, something in my life is wrong. When I can't bounce out of bed in the morning, looking forward to going to work, something in my life is wrong. I'm feeling very strangled right now and know myself well enough to know it just won't work for me.
I'll give it a little more time. Starting something from scratch is pretty challenging, but I've always lived for challenges before this. They've usually energized me. I hate even considering giving up, but maybe it is time for at least looking into some other options. Maybe checking into something a little closer to home (ya think?). I hate to consider leaving my co-workers, but they'll still be my friends if I have to leave.
As far as my writing, my son, and my life (they're all inter-connected for me) are concerned, it just might be the most important thing I could do for the long-term.
